Tririga BIRT report excel export - remove superfluous empty and merged columns

In Tririga Lease Accounting product, ABB is using build in BIRT Disclosure reports for the lease accounting closing (monthly/quarterly/yearly).
After exporting the reports to excel, we need to be able to do further calculation steps in excel, e.g. using pivot tables.
Currently the excel export tables contain multiple superfluous empty columns, with the cells merged to the real data column cells.
With the large number of records in the reports, it takes > 10 min of manual deleting of these columns, before our users are able to reuse the excel tables.
In addition to the time it takes, this manual process is well very error-prone.
Suggestion is, to update the Tririga BIRT report template elements stored in the TRIRIGALibrary.rptlibrary in a way, that is does not create the superfluous columns in the excel report.

    Also, the ccy / currency abbreviations could be taken out of the number report field so that calculations could be performed in excel.
