Prevent Platform 4.5+ from Automatically Overwriting Customizations to Password-related Objects on Upgrade or App Server Startup

RFE is being submitted per recommendation made in case#.

The client has specific IT audit requirements that cannot be met with the out-of-the-box password configuration/reset/validation rules:

  • Password must not contain spaces

  • Password must meet at least one of the following:

    • Prevent the use of passwords obtained from previous breaches

    • Prevent the use of at least three (3) repeating or sequential characters (e.g. 'aaaaaa','1234abcd')

  • Password must avoid context specific words such as the name of the service, the username, and derivatives thereof

  • Use randomly generated password - users should not be able to create their own passwords.

Per the release notes for 4.5, customizations to certain objects will now be overwritten by the platform every time: (1) a platform upgrade is performed, or (2) an application server is started up. This means that any current and future customizations made to meet those client-specific auditing requirements, will be forcefully overwritten every time an app server is simply started up.

The platform should have an option to allow for modifications to the core password-related objects (BOs, forms, queries, workflows, etc.) - and to NOT be overwritten on upgrade or startup - since every client has a different set of requirements.

Hi Chris, Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. I need a little more information to understand your idea.

    1) The way this request is currently worded it cannot be approved because we plan for the platform to continue to enforce a minimum complexity for user passwords. We may consider allowing customers to add additional complexity. Please update the Idea title and description to reflect this change if you agree proceed to #2 below.

    2) Can you share some of your existing workflows used currently so we can understand what workflow features are used.

I look forward to your response. Thank you again for your feedback.
