IBM Sustainability Software - Ideas Portal

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against the products and services belonging to IBM Sustainability Software. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

Allow connection between junction and choice pseudo states in Statecharts

Actually it is not possible to connect in a state chart a junction with a choice connector.

To be conformant to SysML and UML this should be possible.

E.g. the example as mentioned in UML specification https://www.omg.org/spec/UML/2.5.1/PDF on page 329 (Figure 14.24) cannot be modelled with Rhapsody. E.g. a constraint is that junctions only must have one outgoing transition and choices must have one incoming transition. But incoming transitions in junctions are implicitly handled as traces and even when only graphically one transition is outgoing still it cannot be connected with a choice.

Currently workarounds are needed like using states or timers with 0 time to be able to build such transition paths. Indeed states allow residing in them, so the behavior might be different that paths with pseudo states only.

I think this behavior is not conformant to UML and Rhapsody should be enhanced to allow connection between junction pseudo states and choice connectors.
