Enable Current balance adjustment in Maximo Mobile for inventory balance calculations

When using Maximo Mobile user is typically standing next to inventory shelf with mobile device. User has the possibility to read Item number from the shelf with bar/QR code or NFC and can view the actual balance. With mobile device user should be able to update current Inventory records balance to MAS Manage in real time.

This would improve inventory balance calculation process compared to existing situation where user needs to enter balance and run reconcile balances action. Many customers observe that existing process in Maximo Mobile has too many steps making it unnecessary complex.

BACKGROUND AND CURRENT SITUATION

MAS Manage (and Maximo) has two possibilities for inventory balance adjustment if discrepancy between actual balance on storeroom and balance in Maximo is noticed.

A: Physical Count adjustment + Reconcile balances

• Possibly this solution originates from pen+paper era
  • User has walked around the storeroom, calculated item balances and written down balance information on paper.
  • After calculation is complete, user can enter updated balances to Maximo with calculation date+time. Physical Count adjustment transaction is created based on this
  • After this user runs a Reconcile balances action. This updates Inventory records actual balance considering also possible inventory transactions (eg. issues, returns, receivings) which have occurred between calculation and reconcile transaction

B: Current Balance adjustment

• User enters updated Inventory record balance to Maximo and current balance in Maximo is updated instantly

 Approach A has been selected as starting point for inventory balance calculation in Maximo Mobile.
