LQE Compaction error 'java.io.IOException: Illegal UTF-8' should alert client via notifications and stop LQE until it is resolved.

When compaction fails with com.ibm.team.jis.lqe.compaction.CompactionException: org.apache.jena.atlas.AtlasException: java.io.IOException: Illegal UTF-8: 0xFFFFFFB7 there is no option to remove the corruption and you have to restore from backup or remove the index and re-create all data sources.

But when the error occurs it's only notified in the lqe.log and the compaction dialog only indicates a compaction failed.

When compactions are scheduled it's easy for an administrator to miss this problem and we can miss the option to restore from backup. So a resolution which would take hours in a restore could end up in weeks with multiple data sources being reindexed.

This error should be included in any email notifications and the LQE administration page should highlight the error.

LQE should be stopped until the issue is resolved.

As part of the review process, we strive to be transparent about our intentions with each enhancement suggestion. The IBM Engineering team has reviewed this idea, and based on our understanding, it is accepted as an uncommitted candidate.
