PostgreSQL as Database for Maximo

We would like IBM to certify/support Maximo 7.6.1.x on PostgreSQL database. Considering the advancement in technology and organizations moving towards open-source databases like MongoDB and PostgreSQL, we would like to have Maximo also to be supported on PostgreSQL. We are looking for options to move our large Maximo 7.6.1.1 instance to GCP (Google Cloud Open Shift platform), and since for Maximo to run successfully without having performance issue/network cost, we understand that the Maximo application layer and the database layer has to be there in same datacenter to avoid latency. Considering that the entire Maximo application stack has to be there in same datacenter or closer one, and since GCP provides various opensource databases, one of which is PostgreSQL, and in-addition Postgre being an relational database similar to Oracle, we want IBM to certify/support Maximo on PostgreSQL.

Lot of organizations are moving towards GCP and PostgreSQL is an option available for them, IBM should consider taking this up soon...

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and ideas about the future direction of Maximo Application Suite. We value our relationship and are committed to delivering a great customer experience.

In the RDBMS market, while PostgreSQL is one of the strongest growing open source DBs, its market share is still very small compared to the market leaders.

Maximo Application Suite already supports a variety of databases depending on the specific applications you wish to use. The MAS/Manage application supports IBM DB2 Advanced Server, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.

Today MAS/Manage can be deployed on GCP in a client managed IaaS environment running Red Hat Openshift. If you wish to use an SQL database, we recommend installing Microsoft SQL Server into the same cluster.

Without commitment, support for PostgreSQL is still being considered as a possible future roadmap item and IBM will monitor the level of market interest closely. At this time we don't expect to prioritise such support for at least 2yrs.
