Error Message/Alert when Bulk Upload Fails

When uploading a bulk template to the platform, Envizi should send out an error message or alert in some way to say if the upload was a success of failure. While the data load receipt is a great tool when a file is successfully or partially succesfully loaded, there should be an alternative for when it fails.

Thank you for raising this idea. As Mark has said, previously where a file failed to load and we were unable to verify the intended Organization, a Data Receipt report couldn't be sent out. Now that we have Data Flow Automation any clients using this feature will have the benefit of seeing in the UI all files including those that failed to load. https://knowledgebase.envizi.com/home/data-pipeline-monitoring-file-downloading-and-logg

We will review the logic behind the Data Receipt Report as well and see if this can be updated for clients using Data Flow Automation.

Thankyou Caroline and Daniel for the additional information this helps provide some context.

Essentially when file validation fails for the following reasons, it currently happens in a layer before the organization is identified from the file.

For account data files, checks include file name, column headings, tab name (excel) or critical errors like date format, account styles being valid.

As the Organization is not identified, we can't trigger receipt reports for these issues.

Access to error messaging in this space has be done using restricted screens which see all data deliveries on a production machine.

This challenge is overcome using Data Flow automation which provides data services specific to the customer and a way to identify all intended client specific data regardless of it's validation status.

I will refer this ticket to @Yas Karunatilake who is developing the data flow automation functionality which will support better reporting in this space. Ideally for any data provided via one of the client approved data services (file upload, S3, sFTP or client specific email) these kinds of errors should be made visible on the data deliveries page to support more effective trouble shooting.

    1. bulk utility template

    2. client system admin

    3. Not sure how to answer this.. bulk utlity upload was attempted, it failed. We only learned this later and the reason why after discussion with our Envizi account manager. This took a few weeks to solve, far too long

    Hi,

    Thanks for your idea.

Could you please provide some further information so this can be assessed appropriately?

    1. What kind of bulk template are you uploading? Account Data, Meter Data and Setup Data all have different behaviours and error notifications.

    2. As what type of user are you representing in your request? IBM Employee, BP, Expert Labs, Client System Admin?

    3. Under what scenarios is your upload failing and you are seeking notification?

This information will help guide next steps
