Implement an approval process for public queries.
I specialise in troubleshooting performance problems.
I have seen user generated public queries dramatically reduce the performance of a system because they are inefficient... And often the user isn't aware of the problem that they are creating...
Causes can include the WIILDCARD search type that prevents indexes being used
Badly designed where clauses e.g. including more records than they should do
Additional checks have been suggested in the private part of this idea
It wouldn't be hard for IBM to include a basic approval process and implement some very basic checks
If the checking process was automated then the administrator could create a workflow that automatically approved queries with no issues.
The process could then include changing the owner to an administrator type account, e.g. maxadmin, so the query isn't lost when the user's account is deleted.
Queries with issues could sit unapproved until the administrator resolved the issue or manually approved the query.
The workflow process could capture details including:
who submitted the request - users tend to make the same mistake repeatedly so this could help identify users who need additional training to improve their queries
Dates that the query became available - useful when trying to identify if a public query is a factor in a performance problem
