Changes to MAS Must Gather automated process

What

====

The current Must Gather information procedure provides information for the IBM support team.

The information is gathered in a very raw format and it takes effort for support teams to gather information for to investigate the problems.

Business Partners who adopt previously installed systems have to wade through the raw data to understand the system.

This request asks IBM to provide an automatically generated file containing:

  • Manage version information

  • MAS version information

  • Configuration details

  • Summary of the PODs e.g. what type of workload they are going to be processed and the number of replicas

  • Summary of key parts of the installation e.g. memory / properties

who will benefit from it?

===

Support teams will benefit because they can assess systems quicker

Customers will benefit because problems can be solved quicker and with less downtime.

how should it work?

==

The current automated process should be modified to run a script to gather the information and write it to a file.

    Cleaning up some old records. I believe this Idea has been addressed.

    An improved must-gather (as part of MAS CLI) was delivered in 2023: https://ibm-mas.github.io/cli/commands/must-gather/

    thanks for the reply. I am glad to hear that this is being considerd.

    "Summary of the PODs" - I agree that information is included in the must gather files. However administrators have to dig deep into yaml files to understand it - I am asking for a html type report that provides the information in a single location.

    I gave one example but there are multiple configuration settings that are relevant for administrators and adminstrators need to be able to view them quickly.

    Feel free to reach out to me via my email - I have a sample report that gives a sample of the type of information that I am referring to and how it could presented.

    Thank you for your idea.

    We are looking at ways of expanding our existing must-gather support to extend beyond kubernetes resources and expand into application specific queries.

    We will incorporate your ideas into our thinking about the most important resources to include.

    Regarding Summary of the PODs: We already have this available from the "for free" must-gather, in terms of summarising what type of workload they are going to process.
