work task sequencing

When multiple workgroups are involved with one work order, it is challenging to document all the communications involved and link the various work tasks. We would like to know if there is a way to build in work task sequencing that would help trigger different workgroups and capture all their communications on a given work order. Scenarios include: 1.) Before a vendor can tile and grout a bathroom, a Plumber must remove the toilet; 2.) Before a Plumber fixes a leak behind a kitchen cabinet, a Carpenter must remove the cabinet.

Our desired functionality is:

Ability to document all communications related to a work order in one area

Ability to link multiple work tasks to a given work order

Ability to send selective notifications to building managers regarding specific work orders

Ability to send selective notifications / updates to students

Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. Unfortunately, after evaluating this idea, we don’t believe it aligns with our product roadmap strategy and therefore will not be considering it for inclusion in our product. Facility projects are intended for small projects with dependancies on other areas.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Replay received from John via email on 12/12/23:

    Hi Lou

Sorry for taking so long to reply

The Idea that I suggested was on behalf of our users and their response to the suggestion of using the facilities project is…

such tasks are frequent and don’t really rise to the level of being a project. Especially since they can often be on the fly.. where they start with a service request and a work task, then later maintenance staff determine that multiple types of work are needed to complete the request.

I will be retiring from Stanford University by the end of the month so can you please address any further comments to tjad@stanford.edu

    Thank you

    Best Regards

    John

Hi John, Thank you for taking the time to provide your ideas to IBM. I need a little more information to understand your idea.

The scenario you described should be executed via a facilities project instead of a standalone work task. Have you looked into using the facilities project? If so, what are the concerns?

I look forward to your response. Thank you again for your feedback.
