new field for versioning Assets in Document Builder

current situation:

If an report is executed in the Document Builder and a document gets generated then it is not documented which dta file version, which word template version and - if used - which javascript library versions were used to generate this document. For traceability purposes this is an nightmare. Especally if the documents were send to customers and vendors and the documents have been changed in style and content in between caused by the usage of different versions.

proposed Solution:

1) It should be possible to give each DTA File, word template and Javascript asset a Version field when upload it to the Document Builder. When upload from Eclipse RPE Studio this should be vailable too. A plus would be if svn or git revision is automatically used as version.

2) Furthermore it should be possible to access these versions within the DTA File to be able to print those information either in Document Property or on a history page.

    Thank you for submitting an idea. IBM Engineering team review board evaluated this request and determined it will need additional time to evaluate this request.

    Part of your idea is going toward another similar idea, see https://ideas.ibm.com/search?query=ENGLOP-I-27. Therefore, the version control template will not be considered as part of this idea.

    So, where we need feedback is the following:
    * you would like an option to manually specify each DTA File, Word Macro and Javascript asset version field. We can see this as part of DTA file/PUB template and potentially Javascript but MS Word Macro is outside PUB realm. Would you be able to do this today?

    * we experimented and you can see it in the attached file. We were able to provide owner and DTA file name to the generated document under MS Word property information. Is this what you were looking for? NOTE that MS Word and PDF have different attributes and we would need a bit more to design which attributes to use and which values to show. Is your request only for MS Word or PDF or both?
